Central Atlantic Storm Investigators

Tropical Weather Information

This section contains extensive collections of links, up-to-date information, maps photos, video, live observations, and archives for the Atlantic tropical weather seasons of 1996 and 1997.  In addition, this year, with the help of Member Michael Pitt, we are able to provide information on Eastern Pacific storms. For any corrections or questions please contact us at tropical@weatherwatchers.org.

We are taking a different approach to Tropical Pages - "We Surf So You Don't Have To." That is, we provide pages with links (several of which are local mirrors of overloaded sites) that are storm-specific. We don't just direct you to the page where tropical images are stored, we give you the link to the specific image related to the current storm. We don't just push you to a page of webcams, we make our pages dynamic, following the path of the storm.

We're also adding LIVE ORIGINAL data from CASI Members across the Nation.  We have mirrors of several pertinent tropical informations here on the CASI server.

These pages were designed by Member Jesse Ferrell in 1996 for his personal pages and received thousands of hits the first year.  When he started the Central Atlantic Storm Investigators on the web in 1997, the pages were converted over. This site was featured in a Raleigh News & Observer article about the approach of Hurricane Bertha. Mr. Ferrell was also interviewed by the New York Times about this website.  The design is different from the rest of the CASI site to facilitate quick distribution of important data. The pages are currently updated by Member J. Ferrell several times daily unless he is away from his computer (rare case). If you need to contact CASI with suggestions or questions about these tropical pages please E-Mail Jesse Ferrell.

There are no complex tables or weird HTML extensions in the pages so that they may be viewed correctly by older or less-common browsers.

Please link to this page so that everyone may hear this introduction.
