HURRICANE DANNY



HEADLINE: 1100 EST 7/20/97 - Danny has been downgraded to a Tropical Depressiona and the NHC is no longer issuing statements. Expect the system to continue, however, to plague the SE with heavy rains for the next few days as it is still moving slowly. Ground rainfall truths have exceeded 20" and Doppler radar estimates reached over 43" in southern Alabama.
HEADLINE: 2300 EST 7/19/97 - Danny has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm.
HEADLINE: 2000 EST 7/19/97 - Current Storm Total Rainfall Estimates from Doppler Radar are maxing out at 42.5" on the Alabama coast. Danny is weakening slightly as he moves over land.
HEADLINE: 1700 EST 7/19/97 - Hurricane Danny is spinning its wheels over Mobile Bay, and has dropped an estimated over 32" of rain. NEW (thanks to Bill Harrell for reminding me): Dauphin Island Buoy Observations - Impressive!
HEADLINE: 1300 EST 7/19/97 - Danny is hitting Mobile Bay with over 28" of rain and winds of 80mph. It is nearly stationary and rain totals could double in 24 hours.
HEADLINE: 2300 EST 7/18/97 - The hurricane is maintaining its strength. Hurricane warnings are up from GULFPORT MISSISSIPPI TO APALACHICOLA FLORIDA. Danny is expected to make landfall there Saturday. The NHC maintains warnings of over 20" of rain possible in the area of this storm.
HEADLINE: 2000 EST 7/18/97 - Danny is approaching the AL / FL border.
HEADLINE: 1700 EST 7/18/97 - Danny continues slowly to the NE. It will approach the AL coast very late tonight into tomorrow morning.
HEADLINE: 1400 EST 7/18/97 - The National Hurricane Center now warns: "TOTALS OF 10 TO 20 INCHES...LOCALLY HIGHER...COULD OCCUR NEAR THE TRACK OF DANNY DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS." So what is the track? Well, nobody's sure, as Danny has been stationary since this morning. Likely to be NE-ward through Alabama. HEADLINE: 1100 EST 7/18/97 - Danny is now a Hurricane passing over the Delta area slowly. There is a chance for more restrengthening as itmoves out over the water once again. Heavy rains, strong winds, and scattered tornadoes are the dangers. Rains have been quoted as up to 20" possible, which, amazingly, wouldn't be nearly the biggest.
HEADLINE: 2300 EST 7/17/97 - Tropical Storm Danny continues at the same strength, however it still could reach Hurricane status, especially if it cleas the Delta and makes it back into the warm ocean without losing strength. It is predicted to continue a slow NEward track moving just east of New Orleans tomorrow morning.
HEADLINE: 2020 EST 7/17/97 - Tropical Storm Danny's Eye is clearly visible on the New Orleans Nexrad Radar shot from 8:15PM.
HEADLINE: 1700 EST 7/17/97 - Danny is going to make landfall near New Orleans overnight.
HEADLINE: 1400 EST 7/17/97 - Danny will be affecting southern LA today.
HEADLINE: 1100 EST 7/17/97 - The system in the Gulf of Mexico has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Danny.
HEADLINE: 1100 EST 7/16/97 - TD#4 forms in the Gulf.
